Climate Transition: The Essential Role of Public Markets

Climate Transition: The Essential Role of Public Markets

Climate transition has been the dominant theme in impact investing in recent years, but almost always through a private markets lens, with a focus on new technologies at one end of the spectrum, or giant infrastructure at the other. All the while there has been a steady and growing realization that innovation and scale are available to investors in other parts of their portfolios also. In public equities, for example, novel new strategies are targeting technologies ready for scale and companies with value-generating opportunities to up their game on decarbonization; and in public debt markets, numerous approaches are emerging, including in US municipal debt and tax credit markets and through the issuance of bonds specifically intended to capitalize climate solutions.

This Compass Series conversation, moderated by Ben Thornley, offers a closer look at a range of public markets opportunities available to impact investors and were joined by a group of leaders committed to broadening the fight against climate change.
