Tideline’s nonprofit platform dedicated to strengthening the integrity, rigor, and scale of
impact investing through public-good thought leadership
Today, we are proud to launch the Tideline Center for Impact (TCI), Tideline’s nonprofit platform dedicated to strengthening the understanding, accessibility, and effectiveness of investing with impact through public-good research and collaboration. Building on more than a decade of experience advising leading institutional investors deploying across the capital spectrum, TCI will produce actionable research, investor tools, and small-format convenings, often in partnership with aligned organizations. Our goal is to address implementation gaps and unlock new capital for impact.
This launch marks an important next chapter for Tideline. Since our founding in 2014, we have worked at the intersection of investor execution and market development, helping institutions build impact investing strategies, systems, and products with integrity.
Alongside that client work, Tideline has always contributed to the field through thought leadership, industry collaboration, and the incubation of new market infrastructure.
TCI is designed to institutionalize and expand that market-building role, making more of what we have learned available as a public good in forms that are timely, accessible, and responsive to what investors need now.
Why it Matters
Impact investing has matured significantly in recent years. There is more clarity than ever around strategies, themes, and management approaches. But adoption remains uneven, and many important pools of capital, both institutional and catalytic, continue to face challenges moving from ambition to execution.
At the same time, positive social and environmental outcomes are increasingly pursued through a wider range of investment approaches, including some that do not identify explicitly as impact investing. We use investing with impact to describe this broader landscape: approaches in which positive outcomes are intentionally pursued, strategically aligned, or intrinsically connected to investment performance or value creation.
The result is a critical need for clearer direction and more experience-based support to help investors understand where impact is present, assess it credibly, and participate with greater confidence and rigor.
Drawing on Tideline’s close proximity to investor decision-making, TCI is designed to generate insights and tools that are pragmatic, targeted, and responsive, rooted in direct exposure to deployment. By translating implementation experience into public-good research, practical resources, and collaborative engagement, TCI aims to help investors and the broader market overcome persistent barriers to adoption and execution.
More fundamentally, TCI formalizes a role Tideline has played since its founding: helping shape the market alongside serving its participants. It provides a durable platform for sharing what Tideline has learned and is learning.
We are deeply grateful to our initial funders, W.K. Kellogg Foundation, Builders Vision, and Blue Haven Initiative, for helping make the launch of TCI possible.
The Power of Partnerships
Partnerships are critical to TCI, allowing us to combine Tideline’s insights with the reach, relationships, and complementary strengths of aligned organizations. Simply put, we create more impact when we collaborate.
That approach is already taking shape through one of TCI’s first major initiatives: our partnership with the Institutional Limited Partners Association (ILPA) on Impact Investing: The State of Market Institutionalization, a multi-year effort to support institutional allocators in understanding, navigating, and advancing the impact investing market. The initiative introduced a durable framework for assessing the extent to which the market is primed for institutional LP participation, creating an annual dashboard for progress. Our inaugural report was downloaded almost 1,000 times in its first week on the ILPA website and, together with three affiliated LP events, has engaged over 50 allocators stewarding more than $20 trillion in assets under management or advisement.
TCI’s broader agenda extends this model into other priority areas: with Prime Coalition on climate solutions; and with Builders Vision and BlueMark on the impact opportunity in fixed income. In each case, the aim is to identify where investors need sharper tools and clearer, more applied support, and then work with partners to produce content and engagement that are highly actionable.
Looking ahead
The launch of TCI reflects our conviction that the next phase of investing with impact will be shaped not only by capital, but by continued investment in the market infrastructure surrounding it: pragmatic guidance, stronger norms, better tools, and more effective communities of practice capable of helping investors act with greater confidence and consistency.
With the support of our early funders and collaborators, we look forward to working with investors and aligned partners to help contribute to a more credible, effective, and scalable market for investing with impact, one better equipped to meet the scale of today’s social and environmental challenges.
