Investor Contribution: Experiences in Optimizing for Impact Performance
Investor Contribution: Experiences in Optimizing for Impact Performance
Portfolio value creation is at the core of any private markets investment. In impact investing, this includes “investor contribution”, or strategies designed to generate social and environmental impact beyond that which might have been generated in the absence of the investment. However, the subtle differences between impact contribution and typical investor value creation activities are not yet well understood. Examples of value creation activities commonly found in impact investing strategies may include collecting targeted impact KPIs or making certain strategic decisions to optimize for impact. But true investor contribution goes a step further, even if many of those actions are happening behind closed doors. In this Compass Series panel, we talked with a number of leading impact investors about their approaches to integrating impact into value creation plans of portfolio companies
